October 6, 2026, late morning ET. The U.S. goods-and-services trade deficit widened to $105.6 billion in August, up $12.7 billion from a revised $92.8 billion in July, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis and Census Bureau. Imports rose $17.2 billion while exports rose $4.5 billion.

The size of the deficit is the headline. For investors, the more useful question is what drove it and how today’s bond and stock markets respond to newer information.

Where the August trade gap came from

August exports reached $315.2 billion and imports reached $420.8 billion. The goods deficit widened $12.8 billion to $136.6 billion; the services surplus was roughly unchanged at $31.0 billion. BEA reported that industrial supplies and materials imports rose $9.1 billion, including $3.3 billion more crude oil and $3.1 billion more nonmonetary gold. Capital-goods imports rose $6.2 billion, including $2.4 billion more semiconductors.

Imports subtract from the arithmetic of gross domestic product, but an import increase by itself is not proof that demand or profits are weakening. It can accompany stronger household or business spending. The BEA release is an August snapshot, seasonally adjusted but not adjusted for price changes. Why oil and Treasury yields matter more to today’s trading

Associated Press reported Tuesday that oil prices eased and the 10-year Treasury yield fell from Monday’s late level while U.S. stocks pushed toward their highs. That is a current market response, unlike the lagged August trade data. It follows Monday’s ISM services report, which showed still-firm prices paid. Lower oil can relieve some immediate inflation pressure, but one day of trading does not settle the outlook.

A practical test: if stock indexes advance, watch whether Treasury yields stay lower or turn back up. Rate-sensitive shares can face a different environment from the headline index.

Newly recorded PrimeFlow close

PrimeFlow’s public closed-trade log, updated October 5, added DDD +3.93%: a $3.56 entry on September 1 and a $3.70 exit on October 5. That is a closed stock-price move, not an open position or account return. It was recorded after the previous Desk issue. The full log includes losses; past results do not guarantee future results.

For historical context, the same log shows ASST entered August 7 at $12.93 and exited September 3 at $26.64, a documented +106.03% move. This was an exceptional, older result. It is not new or typical, and neither trade resulted from a workshop.

What to watch before Wednesday’s Fed minutes

The Federal Reserve schedules the minutes of its September 15–16 meeting for Wednesday, October 7 at 2 p.m. ET. The minutes describe an earlier discussion, not a fresh rate decision. Mark the index and yield levels that would change your read before the release; do not let the first headline decide it for you.

PrimeFlow’s 40 Minutes That Matter workshop teaches a daily price map and session clock for that preparation. The video includes two printable guides, The Level Map and The Session Clock. The current posted price is $7 one time, reduced from $49 ($42, or 86%, off), with lifetime access. All sales are final. An optional Sanctum membership offered at checkout is separate. The workshop is educational content, not trade alerts or a promise of results. See exactly what the $7 workshop includes.
