Initial claims ease, but continuing claims rise
The Labor Department’s October 8 release puts initial unemployment claims at 197,000 for the week ended October 3, down 2,000 from the revised previous week. Continuing claims rose 17,000 to 1.716 million for the week ended September 26.
That combination matters: fewer new benefit applications do not necessarily mean displaced workers are finding jobs faster. It also gives traders little basis for declaring that the economy has suddenly cooled enough to settle the interest-rate debate.
AP’s Thursday market report describes stocks edging further from their record as oil rises. This is an intraday picture, not the closing result. Watch whether energy shares hold up while rate-sensitive stocks struggle; a split market calls for more discrimination than a single index headline.
A $7 framework for reading the session
Keep the proof and the preparation separate. The 40 Minutes That Matter teaches the day’s reference prices and trading windows. Its video workshop comes with The Level Map and The Session Clock, two one-page guides to keep beside your charts.
$49 regular. $7 one time. Save $42 — about 86%. Lifetime access; all sales final. These closed alerts were not produced by the workshop.

Two substantial finished trades are now in the PrimeFlow public record:
SMCX: August 7, $8.65 → October 7, $16.16. Documented move: +86.82%.
ARHS: September 17, $7.43 → October 7, $9.82. Documented move: +32.17%.
These are selected entry-to-exit price moves, not account returns or typical results. SMCX is a daily leveraged ETF, with amplified risk and compounding effects. The full log includes losing trades; past performance does not predict future results.

What to check before an afternoon rebound
Before acting on an afternoon rebound, mark the morning high and low on your index chart. A move that remains inside that range has not yet cleared either boundary. Then check whether Treasury yields are easing or working against the rebound.
That does not tell you what to buy. It gives you two concrete observations to test before committing money. The workshop’s Level Map and Session Clock expand that preparation into a repeatable routine.
Friday’s consumer sentiment release: October 9 at 10 a.m. ET
The University of Michigan schedules its preliminary October consumer survey for Friday, October 9, at 10 a.m. ET. Watch inflation expectations alongside the sentiment headline. A change in what households expect to pay can matter to bonds and the Fed outlook even when the confidence number gets more attention.
The result is not known yet. Compare the release with the market’s response rather than assuming a weak confidence reading must be bullish for stocks.
