Friday’s jobs-driven rally did not settle the week’s bond-market argument. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% on October 2 but still fell 0.3% for the September 28–October 2 week. The Dow lost 1.3% for the week while the Nasdaq gained 0.5%. The 10-year Treasury yield briefly slipped below 5.17% after the jobs report, then rebounded to 5.28% as oil recovered. That reversal matters more for Monday’s plan than Friday’s opening relief alone.

For traders preparing for Monday, The 40 Minutes That Matter is currently $7 one time instead of the regular $49 ($42 or 86% off). The video workshop and its two one-page guides teach a process for mapping price levels and session timing. It is separate from PrimeFlow trade alerts and does not promise a result.

What moved stocks and Treasury yields this week

The week’s data pulled in opposite directions. Tuesday’s August JOLTS report showed 7.1 million job openings and little change in hiring or layoffs. Wednesday’s August personal income and outlays report put the PCE price index at 3.4% over 12 months and showed consumer spending rising 0.9% for the month. Thursday’s ISM manufacturing report showed its prices index jumping from 71.1 to 77.9, even as manufacturing activity remained in expansion at 54.5.

Friday changed the rate outlook. The September employment report recorded only 29,000 added payroll jobs, 4.2% unemployment and 60,000 fewer jobs in the revised July and August totals. Stocks initially welcomed the softer labor picture. Yet a soft jobs figure does not erase the factory-price increase, energy risk or the week’s sharp yield swings. The 10-year yield’s rebound from below 5.17% to 5.28% on Friday is the useful counterweight to the equity rally, according to the Associated Press closing report.

The weekly index split and sector lesson

The AP weekly scorecard shows the S&P 500 down 0.3% and the Dow down 1.3%, while the Nasdaq gained 0.5%. Friday’s technology strength, including Nvidia’s contribution to the S&P 500, helped the Nasdaq finish positive; oil and bond yields kept pressure on the broader market. A market can finish Friday higher without proving that the whole week was healthy. Separate the closing rebound from the week-long result.

What to prepare before Monday’s session

Monday, October 5 brings the September ISM services report at 10 a.m. ET, according to the New York Fed calendar. Its activity and prices readings will test whether Friday’s cooler jobs picture fits the larger services economy. The result is unknown. Before the release, mark the price levels you would use to judge a sustained move and decide how you will treat an opening move that reverses when yields rise.

For readers who want a compact way to make that preparation, The 40 Minutes That Matter is a separate educational video workshop about the day’s price map and market clock. It includes The Level Map and The Session Clock one-page guides. The current checkout lists $49 as the regular price and $7 as the one-time price, a $42 or 86% discount, with lifetime access. All sales are final. It does not include the closed trade results above or promise any future outcome.

Market figures are Friday, October 2 closes and the September 28–October 2 weekly comparison, as reported by AP. Trade log checked October 3, 2026. This is educational market commentary, not personalized investment advice. Stocks and options can lose principal. Past performance is not a guide to future results.
