The PrimeFlow Desk · Monday, November 2, 2026 · Market Brief
US crude slipped back under $100 a barrel overnight on Monday, November 2, 2026, down about 4%, on hopes for a deal to end the Iran war. That helps at the pump, eventually. It does nothing yet for the Fed’s problem: inflation at 3.6%, and two members who voted last week to raise rates.
Where the market closed on Friday, October 30, 2026
- S&P 500: 7,580.07, down 1.82%
- Dow: 51,770.31, down 1.09%
- Nasdaq: 25,437.00, down 2.86%
- 10-year Treasury yield: 4.94%, down 0.04 point
- Brent crude oil (January contract): $113.43 a barrel, up 2.37%
- US crude oil: $104.12 a barrel, up 2.08%
That was Friday. This morning stock futures are up about 0.5%, Nasdaq futures closer to 1%, and oil has given back all of Friday’s gain.
Why oil fell on Monday, and why the Fed still has a problem
Brent, the world’s benchmark, is near $109 a barrel this morning. A draft proposal is circulating in Qatar-led talks to end the war, and Iran’s foreign minister says the talks are progressing. Nothing is signed.
A week ago I said I’d want Brent back under $110 before I believed the pressure on prices was easing. It’s there, for now. But US crude has crossed $100 five times since mid-October, and this morning makes six. A swing that size is a good reason to have a written plan, and our plain guide to managing risk starts there.
Oil can’t fix the rest. Prices rose 3.6% in the year to September on the gauge the Fed watches most, and the Fed’s goal is 2%. Last Wednesday it held its rate at 3.75% to 4%, and two members voted for a hike.
At 10:00 AM today, the factory survey shows what manufacturers paid in October. September’s prices reading was 77.9, and anything over 50 means more of them are paying up. Forecasts call for 77.5.
My view
One good morning in oil doesn’t change what the Fed sees. I’d want Brent under $110 through Friday’s jobs report, and I still think the Fed’s next move is more likely up than down.
What it means for you
Gas follows crude with a delay. Regular averaged $4.27 in the government’s Oct. 26 survey, $1.23 more than a year ago, so any relief takes a while to reach your tank. The rates on your card and your savings answer to the Fed, and the Fed is looking at that 3.6%.

Apple stayed calm on Friday. It fell 1.2% while the Nasdaq lost 2.9%. It reports after today’s close, and so does Palantir.
October split the market. The Dow rose 1.7% last month and the Nasdaq fell 5.3%. What you felt depended on which one your money follows.
