The PrimeFlow Desk · Sunday, October 18, 2026 · Week Ahead

As of Saturday, October 17, Federal Reserve officials are in their quiet period ahead of the October 27-28 meeting. Nobody at the Fed will talk about interest rates in public until the day after Wednesday’s October 28 decision. That leaves the economic calendar for October 19-23, 2026 to the companies, and three of the biggest report this week.

Where the market closed on Friday, October 16

  • S&P 500: 7,659.44, down 1.1%
  • Dow: 52,002.41, down 0.3%
  • Nasdaq: 26,140.03, down 2.1%
  • 10-year Treasury yield: 5.09%, down from 5.10%
  • Oil (Brent): $109.86 a barrel, up 3.7%

The Nasdaq lost 4.5% for the week, its worst week since June. The S&P 500 fell 1.9% and the Dow gained 0.7%. Chipmakers took the worst of it: Micron fell 5.6% and Intel 5.8% on Friday.

Why Wednesday’s earnings matter most

Last week’s selling came from one worry: how long the big technology companies can keep borrowing and spending on artificial intelligence with the 10-year Treasury yield, the rate that steers mortgage costs, above 5%.

Netflix reports on Tuesday, October 20, after the close. Tesla and Meta both report after the close on Wednesday, October 21. Meta spends heavily on the data centers behind the AI buildout, so its spending plans for next year are the answer I’d listen for. If the plan holds, I think last week will look like a scare. If it shrinks, the chipmakers have a longer road back.

Earnings that land after the close usually get their real verdict the next morning, which is why we wrote a plain guide to the best time of day to trade stocks.

Earnings nights move stocks before the next opening bell. The 40 Minutes That Matter is what our desk teaches every new trader first: a workshop and two one-page cheat sheets, The Level Map and The Session Clock. It normally sells for $49. You can have it for one payment of $7.
