The PrimeFlow Desk · October 9, 2026 · Late-morning market brief
October consumer sentiment and inflation expectations
The University of Michigan’s preliminary October survey, released today, puts sentiment at 46.3, versus 48.1 in September. Year-ahead inflation expectations rose from 4.6% to 4.7%; longer-run expectations increased from 3.4% to 3.5%. The final October release is scheduled for October 23.
For traders, weak confidence and higher expected inflation pull in different directions. The first raises questions about spending; the second complicates the case for lower interest rates. Neither is an automatic buy or sell signal.
AP’s morning report had the S&P 500 up 0.3% at 10:15 a.m. ET after two down days. Treasury yields remained unsettled. That is a morning snapshot, not Friday’s closing result.

Check the price response after an economic release
Write down where your index traded just before a scheduled release. After the first reaction, check whether price holds above or below that reference. A rebound that cannot retain its initial progress deserves closer scrutiny before you commit money.
Make this an observation, not a prediction. The workshop’s price map and session clock give you a structured way to organize the rest of the day.
Tomorrow’s Desk: the weekly recap will compare this week’s market drivers with the finished trade record. Sunday brings the calendar for the week ahead.
