The PrimeFlow Desk · Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · Market Brief
The S&P 500 rose 0.6% on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, yet most of the stocks inside it fell. A short list of big chip and AI companies carried the index, led by Broadcom after a financing deal that gives Anthropic access to its AI chips. The Fed announces its rate decision at 2:00 PM Eastern on Wednesday, October 28, and Alphabet and Microsoft report after the close.

Why a few giants carried the market
On Tuesday I said the consumer confidence survey mattered more than Monday’s rally. It came in at 91.7, the highest since June and well above forecasts. The Conference Board pointed to cheaper gasoline. Tuesday’s Desk set it up.
Good news for households should lift a wide range of stocks. It didn’t. The gain came from a handful of giants, and Boeing fell sharply after warning it will miss this year’s delivery targets.
At 2:00 this afternoon the Fed announces its rate decision, and futures lean heavily toward a hold. The Fed chair takes questions at 2:30. A 2:00 decision puts the day’s biggest news late in the session, and our guide to the best time of day to trade stocks explains why the clock matters as much as the news.
My view: I’d pay less attention to the decision than to the press conference. A hold is already priced in. What moves money is whether the Fed sounds worried about prices with Brent above $110, and that tone decides whether this rally widens out or stays in a few hands.
What it means for you
If your savings sit in an index fund, a few companies are doing most of the work right now. Tonight’s reports from Alphabet and Microsoft, two of the biggest, will show whether they can keep it up.
With the big news landing at 2:00, knowing which hours of the day matter is half the job. The 40 Minutes That Matter is what our desk teaches every new trader first: a workshop and two one-page cheat sheets, The Level Map and The Session Clock. It normally sells for $49. You can have it for one payment of $7.

Also on the Desk
Oil swung both ways. December Brent settled 1.7% lower on Tuesday as hopes for talks with Iran grew, then climbed back above $115 overnight.
Coca-Cola beat and slipped anyway. Profit and sales topped forecasts, but the stock fell about 2% because sales volume in North America didn’t grow.
