The PrimeFlow Desk · Monday, October 19, 2026 · Market Brief
The Nasdaq lost 4.5% last week, its worst week since June. On Monday, October 19, 2026, it opened higher, led by the chipmakers that took the worst of the beating, and it was still up about 1% at midday.
Where the market closed on Friday, October 16
- S&P 500: 7,659.44, down 1.1%
- Dow: 52,002.41, down 0.3%
- Nasdaq: 26,140.03, down 2.1%
- 10-year Treasury yield: 5.09%, down from 5.10%
- Oil (Brent): $109.86 a barrel, up 3.7%
Friday’s damage was narrow. The Dow barely gave ground, while the Nasdaq and the chipmakers carried most of the losses.
The Nasdaq bounce passed the 10:30 test
Here’s the test I set for a Monday after a week like that: is the Nasdaq still higher at 10:30, once the opening rush is done? Today it was. The chipmakers led from the open and buyers kept adding through the morning, while the Dow, light on technology, sat roughly flat.
Builder confidence falls to 29, lowest since June 2012
The worry behind last week’s selling hasn’t gone anywhere, though. At 10:00 AM, the NAHB/Wells Fargo homebuilder confidence index for October fell to 29 from 32, its lowest since June 2012, and the builders’ trade group blamed mortgage rates well above 7%. The big technology companies face the same squeeze: heavy spending on artificial intelligence with the 10-year Treasury yield above 5%. Netflix reports Tuesday night, Meta and Tesla Wednesday night. The full economic calendar for October 19-23, 2026 is in Sunday’s Desk.
My view: one good morning doesn’t undo a bad week, but it’s the start I wanted. I’d want the gain still standing at the close, and then Meta’s spending plans on Wednesday, before I’d say last week’s selling is done. Today was settled early again, which is why we wrote a plain guide to the best time of day to trade stocks.
Today’s first hour told the story again. The 40 Minutes That Matter is what our desk teaches every new trader first: a workshop and two one-page cheat sheets, The Level Map and The Session Clock, so you know which prices to mark before the open and which part of the morning to trust. It normally sells for $49. You can have it for one payment of $7.
